An original freehand Pyrography piece on an Artist Conk by artist Cayleigh Holland

This is an uniqueThis is an unique mushroom, hand picked by the artist, called Ganoderma Applanatum. Also known as Artist Conks.

Ganoderma Applanatum is a type of fungus that grows from a deceased tree and forms a bracket. This species is the largest and the best for drawing or writing, but in my case burning. The artist conk has been used for art and communication for thousands of years. This is an extremely special piece due to it being a real mushroom so there is no room to make mistakes on this canvas.

Cayleigh carefully inspects and examines each Artist Conk to create a scene from whatever the bottom of the Conk might show.

When extracting the fungus the underside is usually soft and easily bruises. Fingerprints, leaves and even bugs will leave their mark on this fungi. Cayleigh uses those natural markings to bring out the image that she wants to translate onto the Artist Conk.

These are a one of a kind piece of artwork that is completely sourced by Nature.
